New York City is Failing its Black Children

The title of this diary is a quote from
this article, by Zahraa Abante-Hayes.
This is a horryfying article that details the dubious decisions made by Bloomberg regarding the schools, and how some say Bloomberg is proving to be a disaster to the majority of children in New York City. The article also details the disaster and racial bias of No Child Left Behind.
I'm wondering though, if the bias of No Child Left Behind actually involves low income students of all races? Any answers?
This article reminded me of our situation here in New Orleans, where the drop out rate is high, and some activists say the No Child Left Behind is causing more dropouts.
There are strong rumblings here in New Orleans that schools "poorly attended", will be closed. Some of these schools, however, are performing well. But New Orleans is suffering a shortfall of funds, and the very first solution proposed, within days of the new superintendent taking over, is to close schools that are well accepted and loved in the community.
But the parents are speaking out, loudly. Let's hope the new superintendent is listening, or she may wind up like the previous one who was recently unceremoniously dumped.
If New York is failing black children, I'm guessing this scenario in some measure is happening all across our country. I can tell you, that it's happening here in New Orleans. And if we are failing our black children, we are failing all of our children, in some measure.
Does anyone have statistics on the dropout rates of low income students, regardless of race?
From the article:
To make matters worse, the new educational administration, led by the unscrupulous media tycoon, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, has effectively ushered in a new era of draconian domination, mis-education, and despair for a whole generation of Blacks. Instead of using his new position as head of the city schools to make meaningful changes and improve the quality of education, and thus life, for the disenfranchised and powerless as he promised, Bloomberg has only exacerbated the problems while seeking to enlarge his pockets and base of power and those of his business buddies and political allies. New York City is failing its Black children, and the failure is deliberate, calculated, and heartbreaking. If the rest of the country doesn't pay close attention to what is going on in New York and prevent men like Bloomberg from carrying out their wicked intentions elsewhere, the next generation of Black children will surely face the harshest times we've seen in recent memory.
