Fighting the Fight in Front of You

Tue Mar 04, 2008 at 09:56:51 PM PDT

The Washington Post's Eugene Robinson just said something I thought was spot on....The setup, throughout the last hour on MSNBC, is that Obama lost the news cycle to Clinton in the last two weeks.  It was all about Clinton. With a little frustration in his voice, Robinson said, to effect, yes, it's good to take the fight to John McCain, but he took the same victory lap he did after Iowa and didn't fight the fight in front of him.

I know the math, I know it's next to impossible for Clinton to pass Obama, but Hillary Clinton is scheduled to appear on nearly every morning show tomorrow and has been on Letterman, The Daily Show, Saturday Night Live, not to mention every single newscast with attacks.

Clinton is fighting the fight in front of her, consequences be damned and worry about McCain tomorrow.

I think he shouldn't surrender the news cycle to Clinton.  Even if he's going to win with super delegate support and a plurality of delegates.  Every time Clinton is in front of the cameras, he's being attacked. His chances in the general are being diminished.

I honestly don't know if he should attack Clinton.  He hasn't really done it to the same degree she has.  I don't know if he needs attacks ads.

But I think he needs to be there.  I'm tired of seeing Clinton doing interviews on TV without counter appearances from Obama.  He needs to be more present...everywhere.

Yikes, Russert is calling for do overs in Florida and Michigan....In my mind, that's the only way Obama can lose.  Florida.  This is going to be a mess.  Timmeh is sitting there saying Crist wants a do over primary (of course, he wants Clinton to win).

Anyway, do people agree that Obama let the news cycle get away?  What's the Obama way of dealing with this?  How does Obama go negative and protect his image?
