Trade the public school system for gay marriage?
Fri Jun 03, 2005 at 10:20:56 AM PDT
I wrote an earlier diary on the failure of the California Democrats to pass civil marriage rights for gays and lesbians. In the diary I said that I am pissed off at those Democrats (and Republicans) who voted no for marriage rights. And I said that the Democratic establishment has failed gay and lesbian Americans by not shunning those who claim to be Democrats but who do not take principled stands on the issues.
I have noticed that there are a lot of rank and file Democrats - both gay and straight - who don't think it's a big deal when the Democratic Party fails to advance civil marriage rights. I have noticed two general patterns: (1) Hey, there are other (more important) issues, don't say you're pissed about this one - unless you want things to be 99% Republican in the future; (2) Hey, look at what they did give to the gays? Stop expecting so much.
Disappointed about CA Dems & Gay Marriage
Fri Jun 03, 2005 at 09:03:19 AM PDT
Opposing
gay rights is not "moderate"
From
the Boston Globe: An effort that would
have legalized same-sex marriage in California
fell short in the state Assembly early yesterday
after a small group of moderate Democrats rebuffed
the measure.
source
The
Democrats who voted against extending marriage rights to
all are not "moderate." They little fucks. The
same is for the Republicans who voted against the rights.
Being on the morally wrong side of an issue as important
as civil marriage rights does not make a person "moderate." In
fact, opposing marriage rights is an extreme act. And it
should be called as such.
Bush: Smarter than shit
Wed Jun 01, 2005 at 10:22:59 AM PDT
Believe me, I know it's funny to say that George W. Bush is stupid (I do it
all time). And I know why it's funny. He just seems to be stupider than shit.
And watching anyone who is stupider than shit is kinda funny. Not only that,
but he's either stupid or about as evil as Hitler. I mean, how could someone
fake being that stupid? To fake being stupid takes a level of sinister that
few are prepared to assign to anyone, least of all someone as stupid seeming as George
Bush.
Al Gore was pinned an exaggerator by his opponents, Bill Clinton as white trash,
Hillary Clinton as a ruthless, lying, power hungry bitch, Howard Dean as crazy-mad
and John Kerry as as flip-flopper. For all this the left has pinned Bush as
stupid. We know from experience that stupid doesn't stick, but that exaggerate,
trash, ruthless, lying, power hungry bitch, crazy-mad and flip-flopping do.
Sure, the right has millions of dollars and thousands of paid publicists help
them with name calling. But I think that the failure of "stupid" goes
beyond resources.
Press conference: Bush evil, not stupid
Tue May 31, 2005 at 08:42:05 AM PDT
To news junkies: Bush's press conference was a repeat of everything said before.
"Freedom" "Fear" "Social Security Crisis" "Opportunity" (if you missed the conference, you didn't miss much)
Listening to Bush now all that I can think is: "My Gosh, he sure is an evil fucker."
First, I believe that Bush fakes sounding stupid. That's because he doesn't sound stupid when caught off tape. And his faking says a lot about what he thinks of the American people. But faking it or not, he sure the hell sounds stupid.
His "analysis" on how the terrorists and he have a meeting of of the minds of the value of democracy is simply incredible. The terrorists fear the democracy that Bush imposed illegally and through violence and force on the Iraqi people. And that's why they are showing their violence on tv, that "people see."
People & guns killing kids: Common in America
Tue May 31, 2005 at 08:19:38 AM PDT
After reading about the 4-year-old killed in Minnesota over Memorial Day
(CNN) weekend I wanted some context. That's because the horribleness of the incident wasn't registering with media coverage. Sure, a Google news search produces 152 related articles, but almost all are repeats of the same several paragraph AP report. No photos, no local reporters and no commentary. Give it time, perhaps. But I expect just a few more comments and then the story will move on. Why?
Norman Solomon: Serious about impeachment (why & how)
Mon May 30, 2005 at 07:52:35 PM PDT
I don't usually (and know that I shouldn't often) pass on a complete email text from another author. But this column by Norman Soloman was just too good to not pass on immediately. And since that's how Soloman distributes his work, and why he sends his alerts to me, I know it's okay to post it by him.
Enjoy.

Impeachment Fever and Media Politics
If you think President Bush should be impeached, it's time to get serious.
We're facing huge obstacles -- and they have nothing to do with legal standards for impeachment. This is all about media and politics.
Five months into 2005, the movement to impeach Bush is very small.

There's nothing funny about Memorial Day
Mon May 30, 2005 at 10:10:50 AM PDT
There's nothing funny about Memorial Day, especially not in a time of war. (So no smart ass today.)

Not President. But Presidential.
This photo has appeared on Kos from time to time since it was first taken last fall.
Kerry knows war and he was the one person charged with two tasks. One, to be a symbol that America didn't really want George Bush's senseless wars. Two, to gently bring America back to sanity. We, his country, failed him in respect to his tasks.
A freeper's prayer
Sun May 29, 2005 at 02:56:33 PM PDT
May Jenna
not be a drunk......and
may the President be less tolerant
There are web sites for
posting prayers for the President. This makes sense, given that George needs
lots of prayers. He's a man with the task of leading the killing of over
100,000 innocent civilians for a war of his choice. That is a big task for
any person - let alone for a man of George's stature.
I hoped to
find prayers like this:
Dear Lord, I pray that
the President may continue to have the strength and moral certitude to
kill the innocent and to take from the poor.
May Jenna
not be a drunk...
But alas, the prayerful want to help the President with his more mundane life
issues, like his daughter's temptations with the bottle. After all, you know
what they say about booze and the Bush babes. Here's a heartfelt prayer for
the President that deserves mention: (prayer is below the fold)
WSJ Editorial is Pro-torture & is Stupid & evil
Sun May 29, 2005 at 01:46:42 PM PDT
Torture: Immoral, evil, wrong & bad
(but okay with the Wall Street Journal)
I don't care if someone else is doing something more bad than I am. What I
care about is what I am doing. If what I do is wrong, it's wrong. End of story.
And I don't want to be compared to the world's evil to justify my own evil,
as in: They do it worse, so why aren't you talking about them? When freepers
cite the torture and abuse of other governments (or the evils of terrorism)
as reason for why our torture isn't so bad after, my eyes roll over so far
back in their sockets that I am blinded for a moment. Or is that blind rage?
I didn't comment last week on Amnesty International's report of the torture
at Gitmo as being the "Gulag of our time." That Bush is leading America
towards being run by a government based on authoritarian terror isn't news.
While the fact that someone else has reported (once again) on the widely known
torture policies of the Bush government, the reaction of the right to these
charges is so evil that it must be commented upon.
The Wall Street Journal's views on torture below the fold...
Contra Cafe: Terrorist Coffee marketed to conservatives
Fri May 27, 2005 at 10:59:44 AM PDT
Contra Coffee?
Yes, blood coffee for blood money is
being marketed to American conservatives. When ordering Contra Coffee, you
can have it with cream of cocaine, blood black or with a bullet in the head.
In case you forgot,
the Contras were terrorists funded by the US to overthrow the socialist government
in Nicaragua. The socialists, in turn, had overthrown
Samoza, a brutal US-backed dictator. And, faced with an election loss, the
socialists backed down peacefully.
In memory: 12 dead on US Mexico-US Border

US-Mexico
border: 72 dead, 12 in past week
The NY
Times reports today that 12 people died in the last week trying to
cross the Arizona border. I don’t give a fuck what you think of immigration
or population controls because none of that matters to the families of
those 12 people.

Sean Hannity near
the border, promoting fuckers who are taking it into their own hands to
make it harder for people to travel safely to make a living.
From the
Minutemen Project: "This woman created the
angel as a gift to the Minuteman Project for their patriotic efforts
in protecting
our border. She is well-known for creating similar angels for the
9/11 site. "

In truth, all holy books should be flushed

Jesus
says: Bomb the fuckers & flush the Koran
In truth, I think
all holy books should be flushed - but that's not the point
I am not Christian. I
haven't even chosen a God to believe in. And while I can't understand how
anyone could be stupid enough to believe in any one God over another, or
any one religion over another, I am troubled by all religions equally.
So I don't discriminate between religions. Also, I really don't care what
someone
believes in. I just want to be left alone in exchange for leaving you alone.
Believe in the Christian cult? (or another) Fine - just fuck off and leave
me alone.
Lessons of the Right: The end of the pansy progressives
Wed May 25, 2005 at 11:08:19 AM PDT
There are many things that the neocons and theocrats have done right, and we should start paying attention to these things. Some are things we cannot copy, just because they are too fucked-up evil, too totally wrong or too dangerous for us to do. Things like whipping the country into a mass hysteria, and things like invading countries - these are the things are as just a bit too fucked-up for us to do. But there are other, less fucked up, things we can - and must - copy.
Lesson 1: The other side will do what they do. Ignore them. Don't talk to them. Fuck them.
Lesson 2: Only do something if you are doing it big.
Lesson 3: Cartoons work
Lesson 4: Go for the jugular.

Al From is an asshole
Tue May 24, 2005 at 07:03:07 PM PDT
Is that bullshit I smell or that Al From's asshole? It's one or the other,
since I wasted away a day reading the latest from Al From and the
DLC.
Here's what From thinks that the Democratic Party stands for:
- security (by handing over every last dime to the Pentagon)
- opportunity (by fucking over the little guy)
- responsibility (uh, does that mean getting rid of all social programs)
- reform (by destroying every liberal institution in America)
That's clear as a whistle (buried in a pile of shit). Sure, it makes sense
to be for things that people care about, and to be for things that people already
support. But when you choose the things that you'll attach your movement to,
they need to be distinct and meaningful enough to result in something other
than fucking over the people you're selling your bullshit to. Otherwise, you
are simply conforming to the culture - and that's not leading.

The rules have changed. And the new rules are "fuck them."It was the neocon fascist
fuckers who changed the rules – and there is not much we can do about
this until we get back in power. So we now have a choice: Fight back or
kick off.
Listening to neocon talk
radio today and hearing complaints about Dean, and then reading Knight-Ridder's
take on Dean's Tim Russet interview on Sunday, I realized how important it
is for Dean and other kick-ass Democrats to get tough. The neocons talked
today about Dean's calling Delay a criminal. The spin was against Dean, but
the talk was about criminal Delay. It doesn't matter if they spin against
Dean or any other kick-ass Democrat, so long as they are talking our talking
points. (No matter what, the spin will be against us. No matter what. That
means we have nothing to lose.) If we fill up their programs with our "gaffes" about
how evil, immoral, criminal, greedy and un-American the neocons are, then
they'll be talking about that - and not about something else.
Army of Porn: "Don't you like these big American breasts?"
Sat May 21, 2005 at 09:11:12 AM PDT
The
United States must seem like the most fucked up nation
to the rest of the world right now. It's one thing to round
people up and put them in jail without charges or anything
like that. And it's another thing to have your country's
jail be on a far off island of another country (our enemy
- Cuba). War, bombing, torture, spying --- all of this
is business as usual as far as history is
concerned. But to lock men up and then to have women
soldiers spread what is meant to seem like their menstrual
blood, that's just a bit over the top on the weird and
creepy scale.
Gen. Meyers: Koran "on" or "in" toilet?
Fri May 20, 2005 at 06:14:08 PM PDT
For
all those who missed 7th grade sex ed, "On" is
not the same as "In." The difference is huge. Here
is an example. Let's say that you are a guy and you are going
at
it, and
then you ejaculate on your lover. You have just experienced
extracourse - not to be confused with intercourse. For opposite
sex couples, that will not result in making babies (the same
goes for same
sex couples).
But
if
you are
going at it and you ejaculate in your lover (and she's a
fertile she) then you may be making babies. Big difference.
Same
thing for international torture syndicates....
